Association of Academies of the Spanish Language shows his “concern” for the withdrawal of Spanish in the White House

The Spanish Language Academies Association (Asale), on behalf of the 23 language academies that compose it-among them the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE)-, has expressed its “Concern” for the recent withdrawal of the website and social networks in Spanish of the White House after the arrival of the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

Thus, they ensure that this decision does not correspond to “the value” of a language that speaks more than 600 million people in the world and constitutes its “richest cultural heritage.”

“It treasures the work of universal writers such as Cervantes, Rubén Darío, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, Miguel Ángel Asturias, Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz, Camilo José Cela, Gabriel García Márquez or Mario Vargas,” they have defended in a statement.

On the other hand, they remember that the United States is the second country with the most Spanish speakers, a good part of them born and rooted from generations, so Spanish is the second most spoken language in that nation, after English, and is the main one in The Associate Free State of Puerto Rico, where it shares co -officiality with English.

In addition, they explain that Spanish is the most studied foreign language and that 60% of students choose Spanish as a language of preference.
