‘The end of the regime’, the wise symbol of Russian dissidents arrives in Italy

Modern international policy expert, The author tells the end of three European dictatorships within his book – those of Francisco Franco in Spain, by Antonio Salazar in Portugal and the colonels in Greece – photographing the moments of the transition from dictatorship to democracy. Remember, in particular, that the fall of the Greek dictatorship was the falling attempt to annex Cyprus. And he also reports that the collapse of the Portuguese regime was caused by a colonial and imperialist war in Africa. Finally, a message of hope for the Russian people is taken from the example of Spain, in which the transition to democracy, which occurred slowly after Franco’s death, was guided by the elite to power: a reassuring message that suggests and hopes for a safe and pragmatic solution for Russia, where we wanted to avoid a violent and destabilizing clash.

The element that distinguishes Baunov’s work, making it not only an important historiographic work, but also a text of extraordinary topicality and, so,

lo look constantly aimed at the present and future of Russia. While never speaking – in the original version of the book – explicitly of the Vladimir Putin regime, Baunov resorts to numerous indirect references, highlighting the strong analogies between the Russian topicality and the historical cases described and commented on in the volume. In the Italian version, Baunov has revisited and expanded the text, enriching it with new ideas that concern the past as much as the present, offering an even more in -depth analysis of contemporary Russia.
