ERC has attributed to the Senate an “improper use” of public funds to organize the Tauromaquia award together with the Foundation of the Toro de Lidia, while demanding that the Chamber in which the PP has an absolute majority that details the “real cost” of its participation.
He has done it through a letter to the table of the Upper House, in which ERC denounces lack of transparency in the organization of the prize and points out that it implies “an improper use of public resources for an initiative completely oblivious to the functions of the Senate”, which welcomes the act of delivery on Monday.
“Throughout the processing of the event, key information has been hidden about its financing, agreements and organizational criteria, which has prevented a transparent debate and adequate parliamentary control,” said training.
ERC has stressed that it has already submitted several requests for information and protest writings, before which “the Senate table has offered scarce or no responses.”
Against bullfighting
Therefore, the party requires “as soon as possible” a detailed report on the “real cost” and the “budgetary impact” derived from the award, including the games used, logistics costs and any contribution of private entities or public administrations.
And it shows its “total rejection that a public institution such as the Senate grants a prize to bullfighting, a strongly questioned practice by broad sectors of society and that, far from representing a consensus, involves the imposition of a partial vision financed with resources from all citizens.”
The Senate decided to join the Organization of the 2024 Bullfighting Award after the suspension of the award conducted by the Ministry of Culture, although he said that he only promised to host the act of delivery and that the economic reward that entails depended on the participating autonomous communities.
