The royal collections gallery hosts a feudal Japan relic for the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows

National Heritage and Ubisoft The details of a collaboration that has led them to work together in The recovery of an exclusive Kabuto of feudal Japan and do it accessible to people around the world through their inclusion in the video game Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The last installment of the Assassin’s Creed saga will be launched on March 20 and will submerge the players in that same historical context, the Japan of the 16th century, as reported by the company.

Thus, the emblematic gallery of the royal collections has witnessed the presentation of a faithful physical reconstruction of a Kabuto or Japanese war helmet, a unique relic in the world, which had been damaged almost entirely during the fire suffered by Real Armería on July 10, 1884.

Kabuto is the most important element of armor and therefore a very present element in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The project object of the project came to Spain by diplomatic roads through the Tensho Embassy in 1584.

This embassy constituted the first direct contact with Japan on European soil, and aimed to show the missionary work of the Society of Jesus with well -selected emissaries, capable of captivating King Felipe II, the Pope and the Christian princes to obtain resources and consolidate the power and prestige of the order.

It was organized by Alessandro Valignano, Jesuit general visitor of the Missions of the Eastern Indies, one of the historical characters that can be found in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as proof of the success of the Jesuit missions in Japan and as an instrument to promote mutual relations with Europe.

The original Kabuto is part of one of the oldest Japanese armor collections in Europe and is preserved in the Royal Armería of Madrid. Thanks to the reconstruction led by the Spanish company Factum Arte, it is now possible to know what it looks like before the fire.

A work that all those who visit the Gallery of the Royal Collections of Madrid can enjoy from today until April 6.

Subsequently the replica of the Kabuto will become part of the Collection of the Real Armería of Madrid – inmersa now in a rehabilitation process – after its reopening, accompanying the original piece.

However, it will not be necessary to travel to Madrid to enjoy this historical relic. Coinciding with the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has included the Kabuto in the game codex, a section that offers the players in the carefully selected encyclopedic entries about the history, art and culture of the Azuchi-Momoyama period in which the game takes place.

This section with information from the history of medieval Japan is written by historians and integrated in the main game with images, and is linked to the player’s progression. Thus, as this visits hundreds of places that offer a historical and cultural exploration of Japan of the 16th century in the game, it will unlock elements about the economy, the castles, military affairs, daily life, religion, government, government, art and music, or historical characters and events, among which this Kabuto will be found owned by the Royal Armería of National Heritage.

In this way, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will make this piece accessible to players around the world, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of it in the digital world.
