Gérard Depardieu’s lawyer, Jérémie Assous, said Monday that the accusations of sexual assault facing the 76 -year -old actor are “lie” and his work is to demonstrate that “the truth is on the side” of the interpreter.
“All accusations are lies. The truth is on our side,” the lawyer told the media before starting the hearing in the Paris Criminal Court, where Depardieu is judged on Monday for two cases of sexual assault in 2021 during the filming of the movie ‘Les Volets Verts’, by Jean Becker.
Depardieu has come on Monday for the first time to his first judgment, a cause that was scheduled for October 28 and that was postponed until this Monday for medical reasons of the actor, French media reported.
At the gates of the Criminal Court, some feminist women with banners and songs have been concentrated in support of the victims. The actor faces the accusations of two women-a decorator and a realization assistant-who claim that he touched them in intimate parts against their will during the filming of the movie ‘Les Volets Verts’. Both victims denounced the actor in 2024.
The first woman accused the actor of catching her in a hall, touching her breasts, buttocks and genitals, and making obscene comments. In February 2024 he filed a lawsuit against him for sexual assault, harassment and sexist comments. The second woman, director’s assistant, also accused Depardieu of touching her breasts and buttocks in the filming set and, previously, of harassing her.
In parallel to the trial, this Wednesday the documentary ‘Depardieu: La Chute’, where testimonies of women who have denounced Depardieu for sexual assault, such as the Spanish journalist Ruth Baza, or the statements of the journalist Marine Turchi (‘Mediapart) who uncovered the case in April 2023.
Likewise, the actor faces multiple complaints, among which the actress Charlotte Arnould stands out in 2018 for “rape by sexual penetration and aggression” up to twice. He also faces an accusation of aggression on the shooting set of ‘The Magician and the Siamese’, by Jean-Pierre Mocky.
In October 2023, Depardieu published a letter in ‘Le Figaro’ in which he denied the accusations and assured that “never” had abused women. In total until thirteen women have denounced him for sexual violence during the filming of eleven films, released between 2004 and 2022, according to Know ‘Mediapart’.
