The Mexican Javier Marín and the Spanish Miquel Barceló and Cristina Iglesias were contacted by the committee managing the Basilica site for “an artistic proposal” concerning the development of the facade of the glory.

Mallorcan Miquel Barceló, 68, is one of the most famous contemporary Spanish artists: he was recently selected to design tapestries for the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. Cristina Iglesias, 68 -year -old Basque artist, has represented Spain twice at the Venice Biennale. In particular, she designed the fountain of Place Leopold de Wael, in Antwerp, Belgium.
Site launched in 1882
Imagined by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926), the Sagrada Familia is the most visited monument in Barcelona. Its site was launched in 1882 and the building was listed in 2005 as a UNESCO World Heritage. The Basilica Building Committee initially announced the end of the work for 2026, but the Pandemic of Covid-19 slowed down the project. In recent years, the work has nevertheless accelerated and it is expected that the building will be completed in less than 10 years.
