The Olympics of classical music started. Until 12 of the month they will be held in the splendid building of Prefecture and Province of Trapani, Sicilian headquarters of the “Domenico Scarlatti” International Piano Competition wanted by the “Trapani Classica” Cultural Association in Tandem with the Mema (Mediterranean Music Association).
Fifty pianists coming in the race among other countries, from the United States and Australia, Mexico and China, India and Poland. But also from Russia and Ukraine: what the war has divided, the music brings together, before the “great”.
“The competition – explains the association – aims to promote and spread musical culture, to provide young participants with an opportunity for cultural comparison”.
In fact, most of the artists who will confront the top are really “in grass”: the youngest is 11 years old and is Italian. And we must not be fooled by the personal data. His hands are minute, yet the competence is great: the small artist boasts scores by Cimarosa, Prokofiev, Chopin and Berkovic. Instead, the older age is 37 and comes from afar, from Australia. Seventeen the girls competing, while China has the most numerous representation, as many as 15 pianists.
In practice, the youth of the members does not detract from their preparation nor does it weaken the ambition to acquire artistic merits, confirming the prestige of the Trapani event now known to the four corners of the globe.
The artistic director of the competition is Vincenzo Marrone D’Alberti, belonging to an ancient Trapani family, founder of “Trapani Classica” and concertist on the most important world stages. Originally from the same Sicilian city was also Domenico Scarlatti – to whom the competition is dedicated – born in Naples in 1685, a famous composer of sonatas for harpsichord and also known for the skill competition that was between him and another famous artist of the time, Händel. The challenge to the last note returns to Trapani.
