The popular parliamentary group has registered in the Congress of Deputies a non -law proposition for their debate in the plenary in which he asks to recover and promote the presence of Spanish in the United States, given the elimination of the language in official communications by the Trump administration.
In the NLP, which Europa Press has had access, the PP urges the Executive to address the United States government to recover the use of Spanish in the official channels of the Administration. Popular formation claims that Spain supports the manifesto of condemnation of academies for the elimination of the language in the US.
In addition, they ask that the presence of Spanish in Washington DC be promoted, through the Cervantes Institute, and a specific program is developed in the United States that “highlights the historical links of the Spanish language and the origins of the country.”
In turn, the PP asks the Government for a report on the situation of the Spanish language in the United States, which must be presented in Congress within six months, and know what activities the different institutions and chairs that are financed from the State and the expected impact of them.
Popular formation states that the influence of Spanish in the United States is “growing” and points out that the Spanish -speaking community has acquired a “determining” weight in the configuration of the vote in key states. Despite this, they emphasize that the current Trump administration has eliminated Spanish from its official communications.
A decision that, according to the PP, “represents a setback in the recognition of this community and a threat to the development and projection of Spanish in the country.” Therefore, the RAE has expressed its rejection and has led a statement joint with the Spanish Language Academies Association in defense of Spanish.
Therefore, they consider “essential” that the Government of Spain uses all instruments at their disposal to protect and promote Spanish in the United States, ensuring its presence, especially in the official media and in the capital of the country.
