The Minister of Culture, Ernest greater and the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile, Carolina Arredondo have signed an agreement that establishes a framework of collaboration for the next five years in order to reinforce “A shared story marked by exile, solidarity, and the defense of democratic values”according to the Ministry of Culture in a statement.
The agreement has been signed within the framework of the IX Ibero -American Congress of Culture and the Meeting of the Cultural and Creative Industries Market, Mic Chile 2025, where Spain is the guest country of honor.
The document focuses on the cooperation between archives and museums of both countries, especially those that retain funds related to repression, social movements, and human rights struggles.
In this way, they seek “contribute to institutional strengthening thanks to the exchange of good practicesof methodologies, with the collaboration between professionals and researchers in heritage, archive and museography. ”
Thus, both ministers, with the aim of “building a common agenda based on memory, human rights and the transformative value of culture “, They have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Memory and Culture’, in the Pereira Palace in Santiago de Chile.
In this sense, Urtasun defines the agreement as “an act of democratic responsibility, a political, cultural and ethical commitment to our shared history, and a tribute to the memory of those who, in Chile and in Spain, defended freedom, justice and dignity. Therefore, this agreement is born from the deep conviction that culture and memory are inseparable.”
Specifically, among the main objectives of the agreement include the exchange of digital copies of relevant documents for the history of repression and democratic resistance in both countries. Likewise, joint research and dissemination projects on historical memory will be promoted, and cultural and training activities, such as exhibitions, seminars, talks or residences, will be promoted.
