The Socialist Parliamentary Group has registered in the Congress of Deputies a non -law proposition to recognize the figure of María Moliner for its commitment to culture and commemorate in 2026 the first 60 years of the first impression of its dictionary of the use of Spanish, for its debate in the plenary of the lower house.
The initiative, to which Europa Press has had access, recalls that last March 30, 125 years of the birth of María Moliner in Paniza (Zaragoza) were completed.
Librarian, teacher, archivera, philologist and Spanish lexicographer who, at fifty and in full Franco, began writing his own dictionary composed of more than 80,000 words and that took about fifteen years in the living room of his own home.
The PSOE wants to recognize and value the figure of María Moliner for its commitment to culture, promoting its accessibility throughout the territory, and for the study and dissemination of the use of Spanish.
Likewise, it urges to expand the acts of recognition of the figure of María Moliner initiated in 2025 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of its birth, continuing in 2026 with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the first impression of its dictionary for the use of Spanish, with the realization of special editions of the dictionary, educational programs in school and university centers, and the promotion of academic studies on their life and work.
