Yleisradio the costumes and props are planned to be moved to the Tampere Workers’ Theatre. A memorandum of understanding has been made on the matter, and when it is implemented, a large part of the collections will be transferred to the theater. Yle can still use them and Työväenteatti can also rent them to other users.
The purpose of the transfer is to save money. Major surgical procedures are underway above.
Head of Production Services responsible for Yle’s collections Ville Venell says in the company’s press release that Yle itself no longer needs a large part of the collections. However, the rest of the media and art industry can benefit from them.
“As the main national stage, we want to shoulder our responsibility and ensure that this culturally historically significant collection is available to the entire Finnish theater, media and art scene,” says the CEO of Tampere Työväenteatteri Janne Auvinen.
The details of the cooperation are just beginning to be worked out. The goal is to find a solution during 2026.
Yle’s plans to trim its stocks were announced in the summer.
