HS-gallup: Finns support excluding Israel from Eurovision

According to an opinion poll by Helsingin Sanomat, 60 percent of Finns support Israel’s exclusion from Eurovision.

Opinions are divided on Finland’s possible omission: 46 percent are in favor and 36 percent are against.

According to the results, 60 percent of respondents are of the opinion that Israel’s participation in visas should be denied. The exclusion of Israel is opposed by 25 percent of the respondents, and 14 percent could not say their position.

A clearly more difficult question is whether Finland should stay out of Eurovision if Israel is still allowed to participate.

A clear majority was not formed, as 46 percent of the respondents would support Finland’s exclusion and 36 percent want Finland to be included, even if Israel is not excluded. 19 percent of respondents could not state their position.

Party position according to the most active supporters of the exclusion of Israel are the supporters of the left alliance and the Greens. Also, more than half of the supporters of Sdp, center and Rkp would like to leave Israel out of the competition.

Supporters of fundamental Finns and Christian Democrats are the most in favor of Israel’s participation. The opinions of the members of the coalition are almost equally divided on the matter.

The supporters of the Left Alliance and the Greens most strongly want Finland to be left out as well, if Israel is not excluded. More than half of the supporters of Sdp and Rkp also share this opinion, but among centrists, neither option gets the support of the majority. Fundamental Finns and Christian Democrats are the most against Finland’s absence. A slight majority of the supporters of the coalition share the same opinion.

Of the defendants women supported the exclusion of Israel more than men. Out of the age groups, those aged no more than 30 were the most in favor of exclusion.

Women supported more than men also the absence of Finland when Israel participated. Among the age groups, the 31–39-year-olds and over 70-year-olds were the most in favor of Finland leaving.

1,091 adult Finns participated in the study, and it was carried out by the research company Verian.

There was supposed to be a vote on the issue among the member countries in November, but Ebu decided to cancel it. The recent development of the situation in the Middle East was said to be the reason.
