Marisol Schulz will receive the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit of Barcelona

Guadalajara, Jal., The director of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), Marisol Schulz Manaut, will receive the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit of Barcelona, ​​an award granted by the city council to people who have contributed significantly to cultural life. The award ceremony will take place in Barcelona during the first quarter of 2026.

The announcement was made by the mayor of Barcelona, ​​Jaume Collboni, who described the news as “urgent and special,” and highlighted that “his personal and family biography explains very well his commitment to Catalonia and Barcelona.”

Councilors and representatives of the city council also recognized Schulz’s career and his influence on literature and culture.

In the auditorium of the Barcelona pavilion of the bookseller’s meeting, Marisol Schulz expressed her gratitude for the distinction and stressed the importance of Barcelona in her life.

“There is an indisputable link between this city and all the Latin American literature that continues. It is part of my emotional and cultural DNA, and also that of Mexico and Latin America,” he stated.

The director of the FIL explained her personal ties to the city through her family: she arrived in Mexico with her mother and grandmother after exile, while her grandfather was welcomed there after passing through a concentration camp in Oran, Algeria.

“It is totally a mark for me, my feelings, my heart, for my mother and my grandmother, but for myself too,” she added.

Xavier Marcé, Councilor for Culture and Creative Industries of Barcelona, ​​stated that Schulz “deserves all the awards that the planet wants to give him,” and praised his contribution to the promotion of reading in the world.
