more than 600 objects stolen from Bristol museum

More than 600 objects from a “important cultural value” were stolen in September from a museum in Bristol, in the southwest of England, British police announced Thursday, December 11, who are looking for four suspects.

Police, who are calling on the public to help identify the individuals, released CCTV images showing these four men in the street. They entered the buildings housing the British Empire and Commonwealth collection at the Bristol Museum on September 25, between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., according to police.

“The theft of these numerous objects of significant cultural value represents a considerable loss for the city”declared the police officer in charge of the investigation, Dan Burgan. “These items, many of which have been donated (to the museum), are part of a collection that provides insight into a complex part of British history, and we hope the public can help us bring those responsible to justice.”he added.

“So far, our investigation has focused in particular on video surveillance images, as well as forensic investigations”he continues. “If you recognize the men in the photos or have seen any of the potentially stolen items for sale online, please call us”he adds.

The British Empire and Commonwealth collection is held by Bristol Archives and Bristol Museums, according to the latter’s website. She “documents the links between Britain and the countries of the British Empire from the end of the 19th century^e century to the present day”and includes “personal effects, memorabilia, photographs and documents of British people who lived and worked in the colonies”specifies the site.
