CUNEF University and the RAE will collaborate in the study, teaching and research of plain language

The rector of CUNEF University, Ana I. Fernández, and the director of the Royal Spanish Academy and president of the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE), Santiago Muñoz Machado, have signed a collaboration agreement for the study, teaching and research related to plain language.

With the formalization of this framework agreement, both institutions intend to guarantee the right of citizens to understand the information that concerns them, especially in the legal, economic, administrative and academic fields, CUNEF University reported in a statement.

Through this alliance, both institutions commit to collaborating in the organization and delivery of teaching activities related to clear language in the development of studies, works, research and other activities.

As reported, the purpose of CUNEF University is to be at the forefront of legal reflection in this aspect, especially in the right of citizens to clear language, as well as in the precision and understanding of contracts in the economic and financial fields.

To this end, as the first step in this collaboration, CUNEF University has joined the Pan-Hispanic Network of Clear and Accessible Language, which has more than 550 members and aims to integrate initiatives around the defense of the fundamental right of people to understand the laws and basic norms regulating social coexistence and all forms of communication directed at citizens.

In the interventions made during the event, both signatories have insisted on the need to promote initiatives of practical use in terms of clear language, with a marked training purpose that strengthens institutional capacities and favors more accessible communication for citizens.

PAN-HISPANIC NETWORK OF CLEAR AND ACCESSIBLE LANGUAGE

The Pan-Hispanic Network of Clear and Accessible Language, promoted by the RAE, in charge of the Coordination Secretariat, was born in 2022 with two essential objectives: to promote clear and accessible language as the foundation of democratic and citizenship values ​​and to promote the commitment of the authorities to ensure it in all areas of public life.

The members of the Pan-Hispanic Clear and Accessible Language Network assume the commitment to recognize the fundamental right of all people to understand; work together in order to promote clear and accessible language in the public service and in private activity and contribute to consolidating the Pan-Hispanic Clear Language Network and promote new accessions of public and private, national, international and supranational organizations.

Furthermore, they commit to the use of clear and accessible language in written or audiovisual documents and initiatives emanating from their institutions; promote and disseminate the use of clear and accessible language in their own institutions and in all those with which they relate; appoint a clear language delegate from the institution and maintain fluid communication and exchange information necessary for the best fulfillment of previous commitments.
