Montemurro tells of Luigi Lilio, the brilliant astronomer from Cirò, who gave life to the Gregorian calendar; of Gioacchino da Fiore, great philosopher, exegete and founder of the Florense monastic order, cited by Dante in Paradise; of Bruno da Longobucco, one of the greatest surgeons of the Middle Ages; of Renato Guttuso, lover of this land, who in 1950, inspired by the mythical beauty of this place, founded the Scilla school.
There is a bit of everything in Montemurro’s book, a fascinating journey through time, in which the stories of extraordinary characters are intertwined with the food and wine excellences and naturalistic wonders of this region: here, alongside the men, we talk about wine, the Mediterranean diet, olive oil, the lemons of Rocca Imperiale, bergamot and ‘his majesty’ the stockfish.
