Carla Bruni lends her voice to Luz Casal’s new album, with a cover of She by Charles Aznavour

She had conquered the international public with her famous think of me : in her new album, the Spanish singer Luz Casal combines her velvet voice with that of Carla Bruni for a duet, taking up She by Charles Aznavour. In this 17^e album studio, ¡Bravo!the 67-year-old artist unveils 10 titles, including five new songs and five covers. Classics of Latin American music but also rock pieces or fado – a Portuguese musical genre -, with a version of Tear d’Amalia Rodrigues. « Covers are part of my universe », confides to AFP Luz Casal during a visit to Paris, “ this allows you to slip into a story that is not your own » et « to transform it as if we had experienced it ourselves ».

With the singer Carla Bruni, she offers Ellaan adaptation of She by Charles Aznavour. The first sings in Spanish and the second in French. “ Carla has this voice that is so sensual and so different from mine. This collaboration was frankly unexpected and I am very satisfied with it », Underlines the Spanish artist. Luz Casal maintains a privileged link with France, its second largest audience after Spain. Before Carla Bruni, she had already sung, among others, with Pascal Obispo (Soledad) and reinterpreted A duel in the sun by Étienne Daho.

Discovery by Almodóvar

Luz Casal was unknown outside Spain before the film’s 1991 release Stiletto heels by Pedro Almodóvar. Elle and chante d’un soft timbre think of mewhich depicts sadness so well and is forever part of the world of the famous director. The recording of this heartbreaking bolero by Agustin Lara was one of the “ most beautiful days » of his life: “ I don’t know what the public will think but I think we did an excellent job “, she said as she left the studio.

She began her career in the 1980s, with mainly pop-rock songs, including Rufinoone of his first successes. This meeting with Almodóvar allowed him “ to approach other registers », et « to grow “, she says.

Combative, Luz Casal often evokes illness in her songs. She had to fight two cancers in 2007 and 2010. In this new album, she sings nothing is impossible (Nothing is impossible), which she wrote herself, based on the story of a young Spanish woman suffering from seven rare diseases. A title that gives “ tons of hope ”, according to her.

In the song The onion blues (The onion blues), she reaffirms her feminist convictions. “ I will never give up my demands, I will always be a person with a rebellious character, I think we can always improve things “, she confides.

Luz Casal will be in concert in Paris on January 10, 2026 at the Grand Rex, before Lyon and Roubaix in the spring.
