The Government will contribute 500,000 euros to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund for the protection of the sector

At the request of the Ministry of Culture, the Council of Ministers has approved a contribution of 500,000 euros to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.

This fund, created by the Alliance for Cultural Resilience of which the Government of Spain is a part along with other European countries, aims to coordinate financial and technical support for the protection and recovery of Ukrainian culture and cultural heritage.

Specifically, its priorities are to support the safeguarding, restoration and rehabilitation of heritage, as well as promoting innovation in restoration processes and the training of professionals in this field, together with the exchange of good practices and specialized knowledge with other countries.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has a strong impact on a humanitarian level, but also on a cultural level, the Government explains in a statement.

The department headed by Ernest Urtasun estimates that 1,599 heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed, which is why the Ministry joins the efforts to protect and rebuild the Ukrainian cultural sector affected by the Russian invasion, as well as provide support in the peace-building process, in which culture plays a fundamental role.

In fact, Culture has been carrying out various actions for the protection and promotion of Ukrainian cultural heritage. In 2024, the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) carried out a voluntary contribution of 300,000 euros to the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Cinema, through the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images (CNC), a French cinema institution. In 2025, the contribution to said Fund has been 100,000 euros.
