Finnish biographical films often tell about male musicians who made a career in the 1980s and 1990s

Finns publishing houses publish a lot of biographies these days. More and more of them are being made about living people, younger and younger people, and people whose careers are nowhere near sunset. In literature, biographies are written about social media influencers, musicians, actors, athletes in their twenties, as well as political figures, business leaders and experts in various fields.

It is different in the film industry. In Finland, a biographical film is usually given to a person in the cultural sector who is either dead or whose career’s peak moments have already passed a long time ago.

In domestic films made in the 21st century, the biography is often given to a musician who lived the best years of his career, especially in the 1980s and 1990s.

Would it be time for domestic filmmakers to gradually say goodbye to at least the golden 1980s and slowly turn their eyes towards the 2000s? Would there be interesting characters to be the subject of a film?
