Skating on a volcano: a dizzying experience awaits families at the top of the Puy de Dôme

Do you dream of ice skating at an altitude of 1,465 m? Good news: the Hivernales are back at the top of the Puy de Dôme. At the exit of the Panoramique des Dômes station, the esplanade of the most famous volcano in Auvergne is transformed this winter into a large frosty playground for the whole family.

On the program: a real ice skating rink, open throughout the Christmas holidays (then in February). The little ones will be able to master their first slides thanks to the scooters and sled chairs, while the older ones set off facing a grandiose panorama overlooking the Puys chain, classified by Unesco. “All with an eco-responsible ice rink: certified glacier mat, silent cooling unit activated only when it is mild, non-polluting refrigerants,” promises the Panoramique team.

Treasure hunt and photo exhibition

The icing on the top: a free treasure hunt, “The Snow King”, invites children to free Panoramax from an icy prison by solving puzzles. Ideal for ventilating children and resting adults.

Between two laps on the ice, we warm up at the chalet with a hot drink, stroll around the store or discover the photo exhibition “Winter at the Summit”, which captures the sometimes wild beauty of the dormant volcano.

Extended opening hours, low prices (7 euros per adult, 5 per child, free for children under 4 years old) and train rides every 40 minutes: everything is ready for a sparkling winter. So, are you ready to glide above the clouds?
