“Avatar 3”, “Zootopia 2” and “The Maid” fill movie theaters this Christmas

This year, Christmas was generous to the operators: he left three beautiful gifts under the tree. “Avatar: Fire and Ashes”, “Zootopia 2” and “The Maid” boosted theater attendance during the Christmas holidays. Excellent news as admissions have fallen by around 14% since the start of 2025.

Of course, James Cameron’s blockbuster is panicking the counters. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” attracted 500,000 people to cinemas between Wednesday morning and Thursday evening. Nine days after its theatrical release, the third opus of the saga had already attracted 3 million spectators. And it’s of course not over… The blockbuster should logically exceed 10 million admissions by mid-January.

“Zootopia 2” continues its good momentum. Still going strong, the animated film overtook “Lilo & Stitch” and became the most viewed feature film of 2025: on Tuesday evening, it already attracted 5.3 million spectators, while “Lilo & Stitch” ended its career with 5.2 million admissions. Some experts now see this sequel reaching 8 million tickets sold… This would be much more than the first part which had garnered 4.9 million tickets.

Great start for “The Maid”

Another card: “The Maid”. Paul Feig’s thriller adapted from the best-seller of the same name totaled 87,000 admissions on December 24. With the 79,000 admissions made during the previews, on the evening of its release, the film already recorded 166,000 admissions. It takes eleventh place in the list of films which had the biggest starts in 2025 (on the first day of operation). On the day of December 25, “The Maid” was even the most seen film in theaters behind “Avatar 3” and ahead of “Zootopia 2”. The day before, he was “only” in third place.

Behind this leading trio, other films have enjoyed great success in recent days, such as “The Song of the Forests” and the animated feature film “Panique à Noël”. The latter saw its attendance increase by 66% compared to the previous week: the film attracted 128,000 admissions between December 17 and 23.

The leading quint should no longer move

As for Vincent Munier’s documentary, it attracted 183,000 wilderness fans between December 17 and 23. This is much better than “The Snow Panther” his previous feature film which gathered 108,000 spectators during its first week in December 2021, to end its run at 627,000 admissions.

This joyfully bustling Christmas in cinemas has reshuffled the annual box office cards. On December 31, the top 5 should be composed, in this order, of “Zootopia 2”, “Avatar: Fire and Ashes”, “Lilo & Stitch”, “F1” and “Jurassic world”… A 100% American quinté.
