The Treccani 2025 geopolitical atlas is released

The Geopolitical Atlas 2025 offers an updated and rigorous reading of the geopolitical, economic and social dynamics that are undermining consolidated structures and redesigning international balances. In 2025, the global geopolitical panorama returns the image of an international system marked by a profound discontinuity, in which disorder is no longer a transitory phase but a structural condition.

“The world was marked in 2025 by a silent but profound caesura – observes Ambassador Sequi -, it has stopped seeking order and still does not know how to live with disorder. We live in a hybrid regime, in which partial orders, divergent interests and spheres of influence overlap without recomposing themselves in a common balance”.

A context in which the competition between the United States, China and Russia, the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, tensions on supply chains and technological primacy redefine the coordinates of global security, while Europe struggles to translate its regulatory strength into a real capacity for action and international organizations operate in an increasingly fragmented system.

According to Massimo Bray, general director of the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, “in a scenario of growing economic, political and social instability, the Treccani 2025 Geopolitical Atlas intends to offer readers a clear and updated picture of the current geopolitical context, in the belief that only through a critical and informed look at the present is it possible to build a more aware and inclusive vision, inspired by the values ​​of peace and solidarity”.

The Treccani 2025 Geopolitical Atlas contains, in 808 pages, analyzes and insights on the new geometries of global power: from technological hegemony to the main issues of international security, from the evolution of energy policies to environmental and nuclear threats, from migratory crises to the protection of human rights. The 197 factsheets on states, updated in content and enriched with georeferenced maps and thematic maps, analyze the most recent internal political developments, international relations, alliance networks and social and demographic dynamics. The work is completed by 5 introductory essays, 68 factsheets on international organisations, 343 graphs and thematic maps, 76 indicators and a rich Appendix of data, for a comparative reading of the changes taking place.
