Movie|One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was the best film of last year according to US critics.
The American actor Timothée Chalamet has won the best actor award at the Critics Choice gala.
Chalamet received an award for his role as a table tennis player in the film Marty Supreme – dream big, which premieres in Finland on January 23.
Director Paul Thomas Andersson’s film One Battle After Another was chosen as the best film of the year.
North Americans critics have chosen as the best film of the last year by Paul Thomas Andersson directed by One Battle After Anotherin. The choice was announced at the Critics Choice gala organized on Sunday in the United States.
Awards were reported on, among other things The Variety mixed Deadline.
At the gala, awards are given for the best films, television series and streaming productions. The award winners are selected by the largest critics organization in the United States and Canada.
Andersson also received awards for best direction and adapted screenplay. One Battle After Anotherin the win wasn’t much of a surprise, as the tragicomic action drama has been praised across the board. Instead, the one playing the lead role Leonardo DiCaprio was left without recognition, as he took the title of best actor Timothée Chalamet for his role in the film Marty Supreme – dream big.
Chalamet’n his role performance has already been widely praised to the best of his careerand the role is believed to bring him another nomination at the Oscars, possibly even a win. Chalamet has been nominated at the Oscars twice before, for his leading roles in films Call Me by Your Name (2018) as well as A Complete Unknown (2025).
It is believed that the role will again bring a nomination at the Oscars.
Set in the world of sports, the film tells the story of Marty Mauser, a young and hungry table tennis player who wants to become the best in the world. The film, which premieres in Finland on January 23, is loosely based on a table tennis player to Marty Reisman.
“You created a story about an imperfect man with a relatable dream and you didn’t preach to the audience about what’s right and what’s wrong. I think we should all tell stories like this,” Chalamet said in his acceptance speech, addressing the film’s director and co-writer Josh Safdiele.

The winners of the evening were also Guillermo del Toron a remake of the horror classic Frankenstein mixed Ryan Googler guided by Sinners. Frankenstein won the awards for best set design, make-up and costumes, as well as actor Jacobi Elordi was awarded for his supporting role.
Sinners collected the awards in the categories of best original screenplay, acting and music. Playing the lead role in the movie Miles Caton was chosen as the best young actor.
