The writer Freida McFadden has been crowned the best-selling author in 2025 in Spain and her novel ‘The Assistant’ (Suma) as the most purchased book, according to GFK data.
She was already closing 2024 as the best-selling international author of the year in Spain. Now, in 2025, McFadden has established herself as the most read author in Spanish and Catalan. In France and the United Kingdom she has also been the most read writer.
Her book ‘The Housemaid’ – which is on cinema billboards with a film adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried – has been the best-selling book of the year in Spain after more than two years in bookstores and almost doubling the sales of the next title on the list. In Spain it has sold more than one million copies, 40,000 of the editions in Catalan and twenty million worldwide.
In addition, all of the author’s other novels – ‘The Woman Upstairs’, ‘The Recluse’, ‘Behind the Door’, ‘Never Lie’ and ‘The Professor’ – have been entering the sales list as they were published in Spain.
