RTL is cutting 230 jobs in the news sector

The step is part of an already announced reduction of a total of 600 jobs at RTL Deutschland. Dismissals for operational reasons should be avoided. The realignment is intended to use journalistic forces more effectively through greater digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and to expand journalistic clout, it said.

As part of the restructuring, several well-known formats will be discontinued, including the magazines “Gala” on RTL and “Prominent” on VOX. In addition, RTL and the news channel Ntv will be launching a joint morning program from spring, incorporating the previous programs “Point 6”, “Point 7” and “Point 8”.

“Difficult decisions”

Central, cross-platform newsrooms are also planned in Cologne and Berlin. The transformation is necessary, but requires drastic decisions, said RTL manager Inga Leschek. “We deeply regret that people who have contributed with great commitment to the success of RTL News are losing their jobs.”

At the beginning of December, RTL announced that it would cut around 600 jobs in Germany, thereby drawing consequences from the weak advertising business. The Bertelsmann subsidiary wants to focus more on streaming. (Reuters)
