The House of Griffins at the Colosseum opens and visits are in real time

The house of the Griffins, underlined the director of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum Simone Quilici, is a “beautiful house from the Republican era with magnificent colored frescoes, geometric cube decorations and even fake mirrors that imitate alabaster. A truly amazing place that had always been closed to the public. We open it – he continued – with the use of technologies that allow us on the one hand to conserve the monument and on the other to enhance it. These technologies are linked to a multimedia system: a guide physically goes inside the house and, with a camera and a microphone, tells the experience of his visit inside to an audience who, on the ground floor, can enjoy and benefit from these beautiful images and live commentary”. The intervention carried out in the Casa dei Grifi is part of “a broader strategy of the Colosseum Archaeological Park which has decided to allocate the resources of the Pnrr, in particular the Caput Mundi project, especially to the Palatine to try to rebalance tourist flows”.

The Caput Mundi Pnrr program is based on “ten interventions that at the time the Colosseum Archaeological Park had selected precisely to enhance the Palatine and to open secret and hidden places, true jewels, to the public”, underlined Alfonsina Russo, head of the Department for the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage and former director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park. Places like “the Preconum School which we already inaugurated last year, the underground rooms of Sant’Anastasia, the secret rooms of the Domus Tiberiana of which we should open other rooms and the republican houses on the western side of the Palatine. Precious and very particular places”.
