The music service aimed at the elderly received the City of Helsinki’s Kulttuuriteko award

Helsinki The city’s Kulttuuriteko 2025 award has been awarded to the Kapsäkki cooperative’s Juurilauluja project. Its purpose is to take music and music-making into the homes of elderly people who live alone.

Root songs are aimed at people who no longer have access to general cultural events. Professional songwriters visit elderly people living at home and make music together with them based on the elderly’s own stories and memories.

Annually the award of 5,000 euros is awarded by the Culture and Library Division of the Culture and Leisure Board of the City of Helsinki based on suggestions made by the citizens of the city.

In addition to the Culture Act award, the city awarded an honorable mention to the Porttiteatteri community theater made up of ex-prisoners, people with a criminal background and professional artists, and Sons of Lumière Oy for organizing the Karhupuisto Film Festival 2025 film event.
