The royal guest, the Baudouin Foundation, is celebrating its 50th birthday, and the host is already in her eighth decade. Well, in her youth she wasn’t quite as dignified and serious. But art fairs like to highlight their long tradition, so it can also be their own past as a better antique market. The Brafa in Brussels has come a long way and has achieved impressive development.
Founded in 1956, the fair is still organized by dealers, similar to Tefaf in Maastricht almost two months later. In contrast to their Dutch competitors, however, the Belgians cannot rely on American museum groups that shop in the top segment. Brafa is aimed more at private customers who buy for their own home or for a collection.
