“I feel shame, I feel many things: helplessness, anger… Because I am Latino and because I am American. Being Puerto Ricans we are Americans, something that many people still do not understand. “Sometimes I think that not even our own president (Donald Trump) understands it,” Fonsi stated in an interview with Europa Press.

The artist has explained that he feels identified with Latinos in the United States because “the majority are good people” who have left “everything to improve and give a future to their family.”
