Francesca Michielin, comic book author, has written a ‘Supergirl’ story

“After Batman, Joker and Superman, Supergirl will be the great protagonist of the ‘Il Mondo’ anthology”, declares Marco Marcello Lupoi, Executive Director Licensing and Publishing of Panini Comics. “For the subject we started with a great artist: Francesca Michielin. This all-girl trio will give life to a Supergirl that you have never had the pleasure of knowing and who will surprise you.” Francesca Michielin explains her vision of the character: “Writing a story for Supergirl means telling a girl who was asked to be strong before she could even be fragile. In this subject I wanted to bring out the quieter side of a superheroine: anxiety, doubt and what happens when even the powers seem to fail. Losing strength does not mean losing value.” “Combining two different media such as music and comics has the same fun taste of challenge”, adds screenwriter Irene Marchesini.

“I am proud to be able to collaborate on an ‘all-female’ project and I hope it can inspire other young women to follow all their goals”, concludes the designer Federica Croci, underlining the importance of gender representation. In addition to Italy, the anthology will include original stories created by talents from Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Cameroon, France, Poland, Turkey, Finland, Colombia, Serbia, Japan and the United States, creating a global mosaic that celebrates one of the most iconic heroines of the DC universe.
