The Kings preside over the annual meeting of the Royal Board of Royal Collections, which increases its attendance by 14% in 2025

The Kings have chaired this Thursday the annual meeting of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Gallery of Royal Collections in which the attendance data for 2025 have been presented, the year in which the institution registered 741,589 visitors14.4 percent more than the previous year.

Among the exhibitions that have contributed to this growth are: ‘Victoria Eugenia’, which remains open in 2026, and ‘Real Toys’ one of the most visited exhibitions due to its intergenerational nature.

In addition, the Gallery fulfilled its commitment to renew works from different Royal Sites, including the canvas ‘The Calvary’ by Rogier van der Weyden, from the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Added to this were unpublished proposals such as ‘Photosculpture. 3D of the 19th century e ‘Iconography of evil. Tapestries of the deadly sins’as well as the arrival of guest works from Versailles and the Prado Museum.

The Royal Board of Royal Collections It is made up of various personnel, on the one hand, representatives of the main public and cultural institutions and, on the other, prominent figures from the business field, such as Rodrigo Echenique (Fundación Santander), José Manuel Entrecanales (Acciona), Marta Ortega (Inditex), Sheila Loewe (Fundación Loewe), Pilar Cosentino (Cosentino), Santiago de Gomar (Grupo Roca) or Xandra Falcó (Círculo Fortuny), among others.

During this Thursday’s session, Olga Sánchez, president of the AXA Foundation and CEO of AXA Spain, was welcomed as a new member of the Board of Trustees. In addition, it has been reported on the agreement that National Heritage and the insurance company AXA will sign to promote the conservation of heritage and promote our culture. Among other actions, the restoration of the important set of Spanish and Flemish tapestries from the Royal Palace of Almudaina, in Palma, will be addressed.

Likewise, the president of National Heritage, Ana de la Cuevahas detailed the progress of the 2022-2026 action plan and has presented the strategic alliance with Turespaña, a joint marketing plan that seeks to project a cohesive image of the Spanish historical legacy under the motto ‘The Crown Estate of Spain: The world’s most incredible Royal Collection’.

The agreement will promote knowledge of the Royal Palaces, monasteries and gardens managed by National Heritage through the international dissemination capacity of Turespaña, with the aim of reinforcing the image of Spain as a cultural destination, increasing the visibility of lesser-known territories and increasing the influx of visitors both to the Royal Sites and to the Gallery of the Royal Collections itself.
