Edition 47 of the Mining FIL premieres sections of graphic narrative and literature for children

The International Book Fair of the Palacio de Minería (FILPM) is in a “transformation process” with the development of four axes starting from its 47th edition, which will be held from February 20 to March 1, said Mercedes Alvarado, new director of the cultural meeting. This year, the book meeting will have a program of 1,200 activities, the participation of 550 stamps and Sonora will be the guest state.

The lines that her management will provide, the writer and manager detailed yesterday in a conference, will be to bring closer the valuable tradition of the FILPM; the digitization that involves the renewal of the fair’s application, which will include the catalog of its book offering, thanks to an alliance with Metabooks, and all the activities; the diversification of its editorial offering and the deepening of the encounter between readers and authors.

Among his new objectives, he mentioned that an effort is being made to have free Wi-Fi on the premises, attention to bibliodiversity due to the existence of academic books, independent labels and large consortia, and the opening of two new sections: graphic narrative and literature for minors, accompanied by more than 70 workshops aimed at this sector.

Alvarado announced that there will be about 15 activities linked to artificial intelligence, the new cycles of literature in indigenous languages, coordinated by the poet Celerina Sánchez, one of Encuentros Lectores, starring the narrator Gonzalo Celorio, the most recent Cervantes winner, and the cycle of Sessions in Mining, which includes five concerts.

Regarding the tributes, which are expected to become “living spaces,” he added that they will be directed to the poets Armida de la Vara and Jaime Sabines, as well as a photographic exhibition that records the authors whose anniversaries are celebrated this year, and the Ecos Vivos space, with a mural by the illustrator Augusto Mora dedicated to 10 authors who died in 2025.

Among the participating authors this year he mentioned Olivia Teroba, Aura García-Junco, Alberto Chimal, Carmen Villoro, Bernardo Fernández, Patrick Johansson, María Baranda, Angelina Muñiz-Huberman, Eduardo Sacheri, Elsa Cross, Ethel Krause, Francisco Segovia, Jaime Alfonso Sandoval, Laura Esquivel, who comes on the anniversary of Like water for chocolateMartín Solares and Odin Dupeyrón.

“The fair has to be a space from which we read the city and our realities, opening possibilities of encounter, discovery, surprise and writing other possible worlds,” summarized Mercedes Alvarado.

The workshop leader also reported that, after various dialogues with labels that had stopped participating in the fair, Urano, Sexto Piso, Panini, Lectorum and some more are returning.

In addition, he said that an “even numerical” analysis of previous editions is being carried out, which has allowed them to make the first decisions of his administration and stressed that he will be attentive to what the public, publishers and authors express.

Beatriz Aldaco, director of the Sonoran Institute of Culture, explained that the 80 activities that will take place at the FILPM, with presentations and talks, are about “the best of the entity’s production in science, poetry, native languages, human rights and critical thinking.”

The event was also chaired by Inbal Miller Gurfinkel, head of Cultural, Recreational and Educational Rights of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, and Víctor Manuel Rivera, head of the Division of Continuing and Distance Education of the Faculty of Engineering.
