With more than 308,000 admissions, “Marsupilami” achieved the best start for a French film since “Un p’tit truc en plus”

It’s not just its yellow tail spotted with black that is super-powerful: the hilarious “Marsupilami” makes a grand start. Released in theaters this Wednesday, February 4, Philippe Lacheau’s comedy garnered 119,250 admissions on its first day of operation. The film having sold 189,079 tickets during its numerous previews, it therefore already totaled 308,329 admissions on Wednesday evening.

With these colossal figures, the “Marsupilami” of the Fifi gang does even better than that of Alain Chabat in 2012: “On the track of the Marsupilami” brought together 251,264 fans of the rarest animal in Palombia for its first Wednesday. It also surpasses all of Philippe Lacheau’s previous films on their first day. The last, “Alibi.com 2”, had 173,635 admissions on the day of its release in February 2023… Before ending its run with 4.3 million spectators.

Better than “Guru”

This new adventure of “Marsu”, in which a zoo employee (played by Philippe Lacheau) must bring back on board a cruise a package containing a baby marsupilami, even marks the best theatrical start for a French feature film since “Un p’tit truc en plus”. On May 1, 2024, Artus’ comedy attracted 252,000 people in theaters (for a total of 280,000 admissions with previews).

Another record: this new adaptation of Franquin’s comic strip is also, now, the film which had the biggest opening day of the year 2026. The yellow and black creature overtakes “Gourou” on the evening of the first Wednesday. Yann Gozlan’s thriller with Pierre Niney was not unworthy, however, with, counting previews, 122,000 tickets sold on the evening of its release on January 28. At the end of its first week, it has accumulated 609,562 admissions – over its first seven days, “Boite noire” (2021), by the same director and already with Pierre Niney, had gathered 292,081 spectators over this same period.
