The Board of Directors of CEDRO has decided this Monday to grant the CEDRO Award 2026 to the writer and journalist Javier Sierra for his defense of copyright and written culture. This award will be presented to him on April 29.
The president of CEDRO, Carme Riera, has indicated that Javier Sierra’s career represents “a firm commitment to the defense of copyright, to written culture and to the professionals who make it possible“.
Rieda has stressed that this cultural and social responsibility of Sierra has always been manifested “in his public interventions at events, in the media and in his articles in the press.” “Javier Sierra is a person with an open and generous attitude. It is a luxury for CEDRO to have him as an award winner,” has stood out.
The entity points out that, throughout his professional career, Javier Sierra has defended copyright against piracy, the need for leadership of Public Administrations in strengthening and promoting written culture and has highlighted the challenges of artificial intelligence for creators.
Furthermore, they praise that it has claimed history as the basis of collective identity, access to libraries, reading and reading clubs, as well as the Spanish language as the cultural heritage of all its speakers and has claimed the presence of books in rural areas.
