Tommi Saarikivi is the new executive director of the Musicians’ Association

Tommi Saarikivi is moving to a new position at the Music Promotion Foundation.

Tommi Saarikivi, CEO of the Music Promotion Foundation, has been elected as the new executive director of the Musicians’ Union.

Saarikivi has long experience in management positions in the culture and art sector and in professional organizations.

The musicians’ union was previously led for 24 years by Ahti Vänttinen, who was fired last May due to a lack of trust.

The music CEO of the promotion foundation Tommi Saarikivi has been elected as the new executive director of the Musicians’ Association.

Saarikivi has a long background in management positions in the culture and art sector and experience in professional organizations. He has worked, among other things, as executive director of Selo ry, the association of Finnish film directors, and as a lawyer and CEO of Suomen Teatterit ry. He started at the head of the Music Promotion Foundation in 2021.

“The labor market in the creative fields and the earnings of professionals in the sector are in a significant historical transition. In the next few years, the musicians’ union will play a very important role in securing the position of music professionals in the rapidly changing labor market,” says Saarikivi, who is also known as a professional musician, in the union’s announcement.

Saarikivi is especially known as the bassist of the band Ultra Bra.

Finland Muusikkon Liitto ry is a professional organization of musicians, which includes approximately 3,500 members.

He previously led the musicians’ union for 24 years Ahti Vänttinenbut he was allowed to leave in May of last year due to a lack of confidence. Vänttinen served as both chairman and executive director of the association.

The association has since tried to clarify the association’s management structures and responsibilities, and in the future, the executive director will be responsible for the operative management of the association under the board.
