Navid Kermani’s novel “Summer 24”: Always beautifully non-binding

There is a literature in Germany that is unthinkable without the public work of its authors – a kind of Academy of Arts panel fiction in which the author’s intellectual profile is, so to speak, priced into it. Accordingly, these books contain a wealth of contemporary events, preferably those that are still in progress. All of this is enriched by the narrator’s personal experiences and encounters, who also roughly and cursorily puts together a team of protagonists that he moderates rather than sending them into a narrative enterprise. This is halfway the description of Navid Kermani’s new novel “Summer 24”.
