Entities ask nominees to denounce genocide with badges and “demand arms embargo”

Five associations in favor of Palestine (Artists with Palestine, Film Workers x Palestine, Prou ​​Complicitat amb Israel, End the Arms Trade and Solidarity Network against the Occupation of Palestine) have sent an argument and badges with the message ‘Free Palestine’ to the nominees and presenters of the Goya Awardswhich are held this Saturday in Barcelona.

The objective of the five entities, according to the document to which Europa Press has had access, is that film and cultural professionals ask for freedom for Palestine and denounce “Israel’s genocide and the arms embargo”, as well as the “total” severance of relations with Israel “every time they have access to a microphone.”

To do this, the entities ask that you bring the badge that has been sent to you, with the message ‘Free Palestine’. In addition, they encourage them to raise their voices: “The more artists you raise your voice, the more impact it will have in the press and will serve as a lever of pressure on the Government“, they highlight.

“Take advantage of every opportunity with access to a microphone (whether at press conferences, media interviews or on the red carpet) to share the slogan: ‘Free Palestine.’ If you want and can, demand an arms embargo on Israel and a complete severing of relations with Israel (whether at press conferences, media interviews or on the red carpet).“ask the associations.

Spokespersons for the action assure Europa Press that “both nominees and presenters have shown interest in continuing to make Palestine visible.” In the document, the associations provide some examples of how to introduce pro-Palestinian messages.

For example, they point out that “culture must continue to raise its voice for a free Palestine”; “Peace is not built on the ruins of a people who are denied their rights and who continue to be bombed”; “peace is not built in forums full of billionaires and empty of Palestinians”; or “genocide is possible thanks to states and companies that arm and protect Israel. “The perpetrators and accomplices of genocide must be held accountable: impunity is not an option.”

They also ask the nominees to directly address the Government and other world leaders with messages, such as “it is unacceptable that our Government maintains trade and arms agreements that allow the occupation and genocide of the State of Israel” or “The genocide in Palestine continues, governments must end all complicity with Israel. Long live free Palestine!”.

Finally, they recommend that professionals adjust the messages to a language with which they feel comfortable and remind them to “always” mention the central demands: “arms embargo and rupture of relations with Israel.”
