Singer D4vd named as “target” in investigation into murder of teenager found dead in trunk of his Tesla

He is now considered the main suspect. Singer D4vd has become the “target” of the investigation into the murder of a 14-year-old girl whose decomposed body was found last year in the trunk of a Tesla registered in her name.

The 20-year-old singer, real name David Burke, was named as such in grand jury subpoenas issued Jan. 15, seeking to have three members of his family testify, according to documents seen by the Associated Press.

These indicate that the “target may have committed wrongdoing against the laws of the State of California, including murder.” Until now, authorities had not publicly named D4vd as the main suspect in the case.

The lifeless body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez was discovered wrapped in a tarpaulin in the trunk of a Tesla parked for several days in Los Angeles in September 2025, more than a year after her disappearance.

The medical examiner’s office reported several months ago that the body was found badly decomposed and that the girl had likely been dead for several weeks before she was found.

Macabre and disturbing details

The summons intended for D4vd’s relatives indicates that police investigators, during the search of the 2023 Tesla Model Y registered in the singer’s name, found a body bag “covered with insects and a strong odor of decomposition”.

These new court documents contain macabre and disturbing details. If we already knew that the teenager’s body was decomposing, we learned that it was also dismembered and that the body parts were found in two separate bags.

A judge in Texas ruled that David Burke’s three family members could not ignore subpoenas and ordered them to come to California to testify.

The girl’s body was discovered while the singer was on tour in the United States. Although he continued to perform concerts after the discovery of the body, he ended up canceling several dates across the Atlantic as well as his European tour when the affair became widely publicized.
