Singer Sarah Engels wins German preliminary round for the ESC

Sarah English sings for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). The 33-year-old was able to qualify for the German preliminary round on Saturday evening ESC-Finals on May 16 in Wien push through. Engels, who became known through the casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”, competes for Germany with the song “Fire”.

A total of nine acts took part in the German preliminary round. An international jury from 20 countries selected the three best acts from the jury’s perspective. The audience finally decided on the German contribution and chose Engels.

The ESC is taking place in Vienna because the Austrian singer JJ won the competition last year. This year only 35 countries are taking part in the 70th edition of the world’s most respected music competition. Because of Israel’s participation, several countries are boycotting the competition – they criticize Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
