With more than 400,000 admissions in France in five days, the killer of “Scream 7” is already a disaster

With 94,345 admissions from the first day, including 15,231 admissions in night screenings during nighttime previews – such as on February 25 at midnight at the Grand Rex – the American feature film “Scream 7” achieved the best start for the franchise in France. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the film already has more than 400,000 admissions in France this Monday.

Nearly thirty years after its debut, this seventh part marks the great return of Ghostface – the serial killer of the franchise with his white mask – but also of Sidney Prescott, an essential figure in the saga played by Neve Campbell, and of Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox. When a new Ghostface appears in the town where Sidney has started a new life, his worst demons resurface. Her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the killer’s new target and the mother has no choice but to return to the fight.

A new opus which quickly finds its audience. Just a few days after its release, “Scream 7” marked the best global start of the entire franchise, with $97.2 million in revenue. With a production budget estimated at around $45 million, the film has already paid off the bill in a single weekend of release, confirming the commercial power and success of the American saga.

The film succeeds in modernizing its codes, for example by highlighting artificial intelligence, while retaining the DNA that made it successful: tension, mise en abyme and black humor. Fans welcome the return of a darker atmosphere and effective twists. The long-awaited return of the key players from the first parts pleased connoisseurs.

Beyond its impressive figures, “Scream 7” confirms the French public’s attachment to the franchise. “We come from Chartres (Eure-et-Loir). I’m not into horror but my son is a fan, explains Olivier, met at the Grand Rex. At his side, Maxime (16 years old) is in a trance: “It was great.
