Justin Timberlake against publishing his arrest records: “It will expose him to public ridicule”

Justin Timberlake’s viral 2024 drunken driving arrest in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons has resurfaced. In a lawsuit filed this week by his lawyers to the Supreme Court, the pop star demands that officials in New York be prevented from publishing the footage from the police officers’ body cameras during the arrest. The publication of the documentation, as claimed, “will constitute an unjustified violation of privacy” and will cause “serious and irreversible damage”.

It is further claimed that the documentation, which includes sensitive information – including family and medical details, shows the singer “in a particularly vulnerable state”: “The damage from public exposure – stigma, harassment, damage to reputation and permanent loss of privacy is immediate and irreversible,” reads the lawsuit, which was also filed against the Sag Harbor Police Chief.

The footage, as claimed, spans eight consecutive hours that include Timberlake’s initial arrest, the police questioning, the tests he underwent, the arrest and the hours he was held there. What “invades areas of his life and emotional state that have no relevance to the arrest,” it says. In addition, it is claimed that the publication of the documentation will expose him to public ridicule and harassment.

The star who was arrested in the middle of his world tour Forget Tomorrowwas arrested and charged on June 18, 2024. The police then claimed that he did not stop at a stop sign and did not maintain his travel lane while driving the vehicle BMW 2025. The officer who arrested Timberlake determined that the singer was intoxicated when officials noted at the time that he had “red, shiny eyes,” he had trouble paying attention, his speech was slurred and he “performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests.”

He pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of driving under the influence of alcohol, his license was suspended and in September he was sentenced to 25 hours of community service at a non-profit organization of his choosing. Along with this, he was required to pay a fine of 760 dollars and produce a public service broadcast (PSA) about the dangers of driving under the influence.

A year after his arrest, at the end of July 2025, Timberlake said that he had dealt with a “debilitating” bout of Lyme disease during his world tour, which began in April 2024. The first months of the tour were accompanied by various obstacles, including cancellations for health reasons, in addition to the arrest – a subject he did not address directly in his message to fans, although he was credited with saying that the affair would ruin his performances. Thanking supporters for their “energy and love” and praising his team, he then said: “I really don’t know what my future is on stage.” Since then he has not posted anything on his Instagram page.
