The Prado Museum reduces the maximum number of members per group of visitors from 30 to 20

The National Prado Museum has reduced the maximum number of people per group of visitors from 30 to 20 people for a “better quality visit.”

This provision, as explained by the art gallery in a statement, will come into force immediately, although the groups scheduled until June 1, 2026 will be respected.

Likewise, this type of visits will be redirected to off-peak hours. Even so, the maximum group for temporary exhibitions will remain at 15 people – although the possibility of reducing it remains open. and in the case of educational groups, the quota of 30 will also be respected..

This decision is part of the ‘Host project’which was already advanced by the director of the art gallery, Miguel Falomir, last January, when he warned that measures would be taken to prevent the Prado from becoming the “subway at rush hour.”

Although he then celebrated the “good news” of the more than 3.5 million visitors who came to the museum in 2025, he assured that the Prado “does not need more” and that the intention is to diversify the profile of attendees. “We don’t want going to the Prado to be like taking the subway at rush hour.”“Falomir then added.

Now, the Prado explains that these two measures will “directly” favor the experience of the visitby improving the distribution of the public in the spaces and hours of the museum.

On average, there are 1,609 people who visit the Prado Museum on a group visit and according to the institution’s deputy director, Marina Chinchilla, “reducing the maximum number of group members contributes to the better quality of the visit and also generates a benefit to the group members themselveswho can now be offered a closer experience to the works”.
