Activate the INAH operational for the spring equinox

The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) will implement the operation from March 20 to 22 Spring Equinox 2026, in order to ensure the safety of visitors and workers, as well as guarantee the integrity of the archaeological heritage during activities related to the beginning of that season of the year.

Tourists, the agency explained in a statement, will not be able to enter archaeological areas with pets, food, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, weapons or packages. Likewise, he urged people to heed the instructions of INAH staff, not access restricted spaces and respect schedules and capacity.

Although most heritage sites will maintain their usual activities, the institute recommended keeping an eye on any notice on INAH social networks. He also emphasized reviewing the specifications of each headquarters, since there are areas that will handle specific days and times, such as Teotihuacan, in the state of Mexico. On the first day, entry will be at 7 a.m., closing at 5 p.m., and last access at 4:30 p.m. The next day, check-in will be one hour later.

For its part, Chichén Itzá, in Yucatán, will open on the 20th at 9 a.m., with ticket offices and entrances closing at 4 p.m., and evacuation at 5:30 p.m. On the 21st and 22nd it will open one hour earlier. Meanwhile, the last access to the Ball Court, the Ossuary, the Observatory, the Ensemble of the Nuns and the Plaza of a Thousand Columns will be at 3:30 p.m. and departure at 4 p.m., while the Great Museum of Chichén Itzá will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visits to the Initial Series area will be suspended during the operation.

In the case of El Tepozteco, Morelos, the plan will take place from March 20 to 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; In Nuevo León, the archaeological zone of Boca de Potrerillos will apply it on March 21, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the operation Spring Equinox In 2026, 45 heritage sites from 20 entities in the country will participate, including Bonampak, Palenque and Yaxchilán, Chiapas; Cobá, Dzibanché, Ichkabal, Muyil, Tulum and Kinichná, in Quintana Roo; Cerro de la Estrella, Cuicuilco, Templo Mayor and Tlatelolco, in Mexico City; Chalcatzingo, Teopanzolco and Xochicalco, Morelos; Cantona and Cholula, Puebla; Paquimé, Chihuahua; Arroyo Seco, Guanajuato; Tula, Hidalgo; Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán; Monte Albán, Oaxaca; El Cerrito, Querétaro; El Tajín, Veracruz, and La Quemada, Zacatecas.
