Global recorded music revenue grew 6.4% in 2025 and streaming revenue exceeded 22 million

Global revenue from recorded music grew by 6.4% and reached €31.7 billion in 2025. In addition, streaming revenue exceeded €22 million, according to the World Music Report (GMR) 2026 of the IFPI, an organization that represents the global recording industry and to which PROMUSICAE belongs.

The data was published this Wednesday and also indicates that membership with paid streaming services is, once again, the main driver, with revenues in this area registering a growth of 8.8% and accumulating 52.4% of global revenues.

There are currently 837 million paid streaming users in subscription accounts, according to the report, which adds that in the Spanish case, there is still a need to increase the number of users with paid subscriptions, because they are below the main markets. Even so, it ranks 14th in the market worldwide.

In addition, Spain has the 12th position in the market in sales from advertising-supported subscriptions, 11th in sales of physical formats, 10th in revenue from synchronization and 9th in revenue from intellectual property rights.

“The music industry faces a growing threat of streaming fraud. By artificially generating works from manipulated or fake content, malicious actors wipe out vital revenue for artists and other actors who drive the music economy,” the report notes.
