Urtasun presents the Music By Spain Export Office to “place Spanish music at the center of the World”

The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun presented this Thursday Music By Spain, the Music Export Office that seeks position professionals in the national sector in international markets and which constitutes “a strategic step to place Spanish music at the center of the world”.

“It is not just another project, but a strategic step to place Spanish music where it deserves to be, at the center of the world. The office is not just an information point, it is an ecosystem of resources, knowledge and connection,” said the minister at the press conference held in the Galileo Galilei room (Madrid).

The office will offer a global resource map, a portal with aid and training opportunities, and a series of reports on markets and professional fairs, tools that – according to the minister – “democratize access to international opportunities” and consolidate a “country brand” around music.

“This project consolidates a technical structure, but also reflects a change in focus, a cultural policy that conceives music as an economic engine, shared identity and vehicle of international connection. Because when we talk about music, we talk about one of the most alive, most transversal and most present cultural expressions in everyday life. Music is one of our most powerful languages to connect realities, cultures and people,” Urtasun highlighted.

The initiative is promoted by the Spanish Music Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Cervantes Institute, Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

For her part, the president of the Spanish Music Federation (Es_Música) has assured that the initiation seeks to “position Spain as a global benchmark in musical creation”, offering tools that generate visibility, competitiveness and opportunities for artists and professionals in the sector.

Collado has pointed out that internationalization “does not happen alone”, but requires planning, coordination and collaboration between all the actors involved. “It is a sweet moment for music in Spanish on a global level, but one in which Spanish music has not yet achieved the impact and the place that we could achieve.“, he indicated.

PUBLIC-PRIVATE AXIS

The event has highlighted the importance of public-private cooperation as the basis of the Music by Spain project, conceived as a platform for collaboration between cultural institutions, administrations and the professional music community itself.

The Director of Programming of Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E), Inma Ballesteros, has stressed that the current challenge “is not only to grow, but to position itself internationally”, and has added that the internationalization office represents a “strategic opportunity” to build a solid and coherent brand of Spanish music abroad.

Along the same lines, the director of Culture of the Cervantes Institute, Raquel Caleya, has praised the good moment that music is going through, although she has warned that visibility “is not enough” without shared structures and objectives. “Internationalization must be based on sustainability and “the ability to build trajectories and consolidate lasting relationships,” has stated.

Finally, the deputy director of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the AECID, Santiago Sierra, has highlighted the role of his organization in the foreign promotion of Spanish culture. “This office represents a first-level public-private alliance for the country”he stated.
