The drawing duo “Rattelschneck” will be awarded the “Göttinger Elch” satire prize in Göttingen on Sunday. According to the city of Göttingen, Marcus Weimer and Olav Westphalen will be honored for their pointed picture stories. The city has been awarding the prize for a satirical life’s work since 1997. It is endowed with 3,333 euros and a silver moose brooch.
Under the name “Rattelschneck”, a form of comedy has been created since the 1990s that makes jokes cleverly, pointedly and at a high artistic level, the reason for the award was given. The duo publishes their comics and drawings in, among others, the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and “Zeit” as well as in the magazines “Titanic” and “11 Freunde”.

Following the award ceremony, the exhibition “Worm cure for everyone! 40 years of comics and cartoons” with drawings by “Rattelschneck” will be shown in the Old Göttingen Town Hall from Sunday. According to the information, it presents an extensive selection of works that reflect the special wit and unique style of the two artists.
Previous Elch Prize winners include Robert Gernhardt, Emil Steinberger, Gerhard Polt, Helge Schneider, Maren Kroymann and the cartoonist duo Achim Greser and Heribert Lenz. Last year the musician and author Christiane Rösinger was awarded the prize.
