Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, takes steps to no longer bear her father's name

Further proof of the tensions between actor Brad Pitt and the children he had with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie. Their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt has taken legal action in a Los Angeles court to officially change her last name and use only her mother’s name, the BBC reported this Saturday, June 1.

She submitted her application on May 27, her 18th birthday. Born in 2006 in Swakopmund, Namibia, Shiloh is the couple’s third child. Angelina Jolie previously adopted two children, Maddox and Zahara, who Brad Pitt later formally adopted upon their marriage.

Eight years after the separation of the couple, an unfinished procedure

The couple married in 2014 after nine years of dating, before the actress formally filed for divorce in September 2016. However, the proceedings are still not finalized to this day and the couple are still in proceedings to find out who will recover Château Miraval, a wine estate located in the Var, which they purchased jointly.

Brad Pitt embarked on a legal battle to regain custody of the couple’s still minor children in 2021, which resulted in a judgment granting him alternate residence.

Angelina Jolie also accused her ex-husband in 2022 of having been violent towards her during a flight between Los Angeles and France in 2016, while at the same time he accused her of having sold her shares in the Chateau Miraval.

His sisters have already dropped the Pitt name

Shiloh Nouvel’s two sisters have already appeared publicly under the name Jolie, without bearing their father’s name. Such is the case for 15-year-old Vivienne Marcheline, identified as Vivienne Jolie when she was credited with helping her mother on the sidelines of a Broadway production this year, “The Outsiders.”

Her older sister Zahara, for her part, introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie when she joined a sorority at a university in Atlanta last year, the BBC points out. But with the launch of the legal procedure, Shiloh is the first in the family to make a formal request for a change of name in the civil registry.
