Producer María Zamora, 2024 National Cinematography Award, for her support of “independent and risky” cinema

The producer Maria Zamora has been awarded with the National Cinematography Award, at the proposal of the jury. This prize, awarded annually by the Ministry of Culture, is worth 30,000 euros.

Culture announced the ruling this Monday in a statement, in which it states that the jury has recognized María Zamora for “his support for independent and risky cinema. Throughout her career, María Zamora has strengthened the presence of Spanish independent cinema in the international market, influencing sensitive and diverse views.”

In turn, the jury highlighted that María Zamora “in 2023 won the San Sebastián Golden Shell for the film ‘O corno’ as well as her involvement in multiple productions that earned eight nominations for the 2024 Goya Awards.”

The producer has participated in films such as ‘Alcarras’by Carla Simón, ‘The cuckold’, of Jaione Camborda, the ‘Creature’by Elena Martín, among others.

The National Cinematography Award rewards the most outstanding contribution in the Spanish cinematographic field, preferably demonstrated through a work made public or a professional work carried out during the year 2023, or, in exceptional cases duly motivated, it is awarded in recognition to a professional career.

The award, which the Minister of Culture usually presents within the framework of the San Sebastián Festival, recognized in its last edition Carla Simonjoining a list of personalities from Spanish cinematography, among whom are Penélope Cruz, José Sacristán, Isabel Coixet, Antonio Banderas o Fernando Truebaamong others.

The jury was chaired by Ignasi Camós Victoria, general director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), and Camilo Vázquez Bello, deputy director general of Promotion and International Relations of the ICAA, acted as vice president. Juan Vicente Córdoba Navalpotro has acted as members, at the proposal of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain; Josep Gatell Castro, at the proposal of Literary Authors of Audiovisual Media; Daniel Grao Valle, at the proposal of the Union of Actors and Actresses; Paula Palacios Castaño, at the proposal of the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA); Desiré de Fez Martín, Susana Herreras Casado and Ariadna Cortés Prió, at the proposal of the ICAA; and Carla Simón Pipo, awarded in the previous call.
