Hand-painted Star Wars figurine sold for 0,000

The toy, which represents Boba Fett, George Lucas’ bounty hunter, only exists in two copies. It has become the most expensive toy in the world. The auction took place in Texas this week. Until now this record was held by Barbie.

Saved from an abandoned cardboard box in 1970, it became the most expensive figurine in the world. Sold in Texas for 520,000 dollars, or 480,000 euros, this June 3, the Boba Fett toy, character Star Wars entered the record books. “The rocket-firing Boba Fett action figure long ago became such a legendary icon that people around the world know it even if they don’t collect anything at all.”explained Joe Maddalena, executive vice president of Heritage Auctions, the auction house.

There are only two hand-painted examples like this. They survived the withdrawal of the Kenner production line in the 1970s. When the toy company imagined this mini Boba Fett, it was to be distributed free to all buyers who could justify the purchase of four other figures from the Star Saga Wars. But this character from the George Lucas universe never reached homes. It was removed for security reasons. The toy could present a choking hazard to children.

Barbie ahead

“We knew this one had a chance to make the record books, and it was exciting to see it become the world’s most valuable toy.”, said Joe Maddalena. The buyer wishes to remain anonymous. The latter now holds this 9.52 cm figurine. “Its price more than doubled the record for the most expensive Star Wars figurine sold at auction, held by a Boba Fett rocket which brought in $236,000 in June 2022”, develops the auction house. But that’s not all, Boba Fett beat Barbie. In 2010, the blonde doll adorned with a one-carat diamond was sold for $302,000.
