Actress Ilse Ritter turns 80: unearthly good – Culture

“I see far, far into the worlds” – this is not the title of an autobiography or a collection of anecdotes by Ilse Ritter. And yet it is a book, published three years ago by Palmartpress in Berlin, which is particularly her own because it continues her father’s life’s work: It is the “Godsongs of Àdda”, nine songs from Old Scandinavian, newly translated by Ritter and also recorded by her for an audio book, thereby transforming poetry into word music. Ritter continued the gesture of the book on stage. As the “Angel of History”, she walked through the Komische Oper in Berlin, which had been transformed into an ice desert: In 2022, she had a speaking role in Luigi Nono’s mighty opera “Intolleranza 1960”, in which she played the role of the gods with a text by Caroline Emcke in her word melody. Stage action commented knowingly. A mischievously knowing figure was also her oracle in “aerocircus”, a play by Thomas Köck, performed by the inclusive Berlin Rambazamba Theater. A surprise for the audience. Ilse Ritter loves surprises – and is always good for one herself.
